Synopsis

Visual and acoustic archival material of space exploration and astronomical photographs meet in the suggestive soundscapes by composer Helga Pogatschar. In Moonphases she combines electronic sound with the live instruments zither, accordion, and violin. The musicians are accompanied by the scenography of Clea T. Waite's mesmerizing film images of the Moon. Pogatschar's composition creates an irritating field of tension between the strange and the homey, the future and nostalgia. Because that one-time science-fiction of travel to the Moon is now an oldie, inevitably accompanied by Spaceship Orion and the retro-sounds of the 60's synthesizer.
